Facebook was established on February 4, 2004, the most used social media at that time. Today is Facebook’s birthday. Today is the birthday of the one we wish our loved ones on their birthday through Facebook.
People are curious about who created this Facebook. Let’s clear that curiosity today. I know nothing about creating Facebook.
American computer programmer and software developer Mark Zuckerberg founded Facebook with the help of his roommates and computer science students Eduardo Severin, Dustin Moskowitz and Chris Hughes while studying at Harvard University.
First, on October 28, 2003, Mark Elliott Zuckerberg founded a website called Facemash.com. And he also hacked the database of his college for that site. He took photos of students from the hacked Harvard College database and used them on Facemash to arrange for visitors to vote “hot” or “not”. Later, Zuckerberg was forced to close the site in the face of fire from college students.
Zuckerberg originally thought of Facebook from the Facemash website. And from that idea, on January 11, 2004, he bought the Facebook.com domain.
When Mark Zuckerberg launched the new site called “The Facebook”, 1200 students registered in it within 24 hours. At first it was limited only to Harvard College, but after 2 months it expanded to other colleges in Boston, Ivy League and Stanford University.
By June, nearly one and a half lakh (150,000) users started using Facebook on the site, and by December, the number had risen to 1 million. But at that time only boys and girls above the age of 13 could use it. At that time Facebook did not have any photo uploading, wall, news feed, event, page etc features.
Finally, in August 2005, Zuckerberg shortened “The Facebook” to “Facebook” because of the catchy name and bought a domain with this name. But it cost two hundred thousand US dollars. He did not have to look back after that.
